COMPLEMENTARY THERAPIES

Whole Body Healing

We pride ourselves on offering a variety of services to ensure your optimal return to health.

Acupuncture and Dry Needling

Acupuncture is one of the many skills employed by our physios as part of an integrated approach to pain and inflammation. Treatments are based on scientific research and clinical evidence which supports its use in reducing pain by stimulating the brain and spinal cord to produce natural pain relieving chemicals. This can help in pain relief, sleep and well-being.

Conventional acupuncture involves the use of single use, pre-sterilised needles that pierce the skin at acupuncture points. They are typically left in for 10 -30 minutes.

Dry needling is used to facilitate relaxation in specific muscles following trauma, unresolved muscular pain or as a means of increasing muscle length. The needle is inserted until the muscle relaxes- much quicker than traditional acupuncture.

Acupuncture and dry needling form part of your physiotherapy treatment and are therefore provided at no extra cost.

We also have a traditional acupuncturist at the clinic. This, however does not form part of your physiotherapy appointment.

Traditional acupuncture is a healthcare system based on ancient principles which go back nearly two thousand years. It looks at pain and illness as signs that the body is out of balance. The overall aim of traditional acupuncture treatment is to restore the body’s equilibrium. Please call to make an appointment or inquire about prices.

Pilates and Core Scanning

Pilates is a very useful adjunct to rehabilitation following injury and its use following back injury is widely accepted.

Pilates exercises concentrate on the core and how we control and protect the back during daily life.

There are many benefits of doing pilates exercises, these include; developing strong core stability, ensuring correct posture, improving balance and co-ordination, helping correct muscle imbalances and assisting recovery after injury.

Once our physios are happy with progress following a complaint of back pain, you will often be encouraged to do some pilates to help with your recovery and prevent recurrence of your symptoms.

The pilates sessions at Physiolistic are either individual 1:1 sessions or in small groups.

With the use of our diagnostic ultrasound we are able to help you visualize your core and teach you to better isolate this important muscle. We can then monitor your improvements and adapt your recruitment patterns as required.

Personal Training with a Physiotherapist

Some of our physios have also undertaken additional sports and exercise degrees qualifying them to work as personal trainers and sports massage therapists. This gives patients the ideal service of having personal training sessions and goals set by someone who is also a qualified physiotherapist.

The personal training sessions are individual 1:1 sessions in the Physiolistic gym and/or on the Rugby Club astroturf.

Our physios are also highly skilled users of Compex (computerised exercise). This is a muscle stimulation device which recruits 100% of the muscle instead of 40% which we normally use allowing you to make quicker gains in muscle strength (40% more muscle in 6 weeks). It is an advanced training partner used by Olympians and athletes worldwide.

It is additionally applied as a useful tool for both pre and post surgery allowing for a faster recovery. Compex can also be an adjunct to your normal physio sessions.

Sports Massage

A sports massage is ideal to treat injuries as well as providing preventative treatment. helping the health of muscle and connective tissue, range of movement, tone, symmetry, balance of muscle and quality of posture.

Sports massage at Physiolistic is a useful adjunct to rehabilitation and treatment but is also useful for anyone with an active lifestyle as it provides a holistic approach to general body functioning and injury prevention. Our sports massage therapists believe in easing out muscle tightness to help restore normal movement. They use various massage techniques during their sessions which will be specific to your needs.
