Acupuncture and Dry Needling

Acupuncture is one of the many skills employed by our physios as part of an integrated approach to pain and inflammation. Treatments are based on scientific research and clinical evidence which supports its use in reducing pain by stimulating the brain and spinal cord to produce natural pain relieving chemicals. This can help in pain relief, sleep and well-being.

Conventional acupuncture involves the use of single use, pre-sterilised needles that pierce the skin at acupuncture points. They are typically left in for 10 -30 minutes.

Dry needling is used to facilitate relaxation in specific muscles following trauma, unresolved muscular pain or as a means of increasing muscle length. The needle is inserted until the muscle relaxes- much quicker than traditional acupuncture.

Acupuncture and dry needling form part of your physiotherapy treatment and are therefore provided at no extra cost.

We also have a traditional acupuncturist at the clinic. This, however does not form part of your physiotherapy appointment.

Traditional acupuncture is a healthcare system based on ancient principles which go back nearly two thousand years. It looks at pain and illness as signs that the body is out of balance. The overall aim of traditional acupuncture treatment is to restore the body’s equilibrium. Please call to make an appointment or inquire about prices.
